Description of the offer :

This is a fully funded-industry sponsored PhD Opportunity at Heriot-Watt University. We are looking for an ambitious PhD student with a background in Electrical Engineering or Physics to join the Quantum Photonics Laboratory in Edinburgh, Scotland. If you're passionate about quantum technologies, and superconducting circuits, this is your chance to work on cutting-edge research that pushes the boundaries of physics and engineering. The PhD project is towards optimizing superconducting qubits. We would like to unravel noise sources in superconducting circuits using quantum magnetometry, with the ultimate goal of enhancing coherence times and advancing the scalability of quantum computers. A goal of the project is to develop a mK-widefield quantum sensing tool in our Blufors dilution refrigerator in our newly built state-of-the art “Quantum Magnetometry” facility (https://qpl.eps.hw.ac.uk/?page_id=1823).This project is sponsored by industrial partner QZabre AG, an ETH Zurich SpinOff focused on commercializing diamond technology based on NV centres for applications in quantum sensing.
