The EMA sponsorship programme provides financial support for young scientists to participate in scientific events and for the community to organise focused workshops, both in the field of magnetism and in Europe.
Next cut-off dates for the request of financial sponsorship: 30th January 2026 and 31st July 2026 end of working day at your local time.
Within a couple of weeks after each cut-off date the applications will be examined and those proposed for funding will be informed.
Contact: Olivier FRUCHART, Officer for Membership and Sponsorship
In 2026, the European Magnetism Association launched a sponsorship programme. The programme provides financial support in the field of magnetism, comprising two components: one to support early-career scientists in attending scientific events and the other to fund the organisation of focused workshops. This financial support is made possible through various EMA revenues, particularly membership programme fees. We therefore encourage our community colleagues to consider joining the membership programme to strengthen the sponsorship support.
The request for financial support is a light-weighted and responsive process. Applications can be posted anytime, with two cut-off dates per year, typically end of January and end of July every year, for an event to take place within a year following the application date. The committee selecting the applications to support consists of a few colleagues, members of the Executive Board of EMA, led by the Officer for Membership and Sponsorship.
The European School on Magnetism and the Joint European Magnetic Symposia are two core events of EMA. As such, these events already have a policy that fosters the participation of young scientists. Therefore, the sponsorship programme primarily addresses other events held in Europe, with the aim of broadening EMA's commitment to diversity and early-career scientists. Those events are expected to comply to some extent with EMA's commitments for events, in the field of sustainability, gender/diversity and promotion of young scientists. Nevertheless, do not hesitate to contact us for advice if your participation to ESM or JEMS may require support.
Apply before next cut-off date 31st July 2026 end of day.
The programme aims at supporting the participation of early-career scientists at events in the field of Magnetism. Applicants are not required to be EMA members, although they may decide to become members, but the sponsored individuals will be proposed to be included in EMA’s mailing list. Although most applicants are expected to be affiliated with a laboratory or other organisation, applications can be made even with no affiliation, e.g., between two contracts when participation cannot be supported by any given lab. The maximum amount of support is 500€.
The criterion for granting support starts from scientific excellence and personal ambition. The impact of the sponsorship may be multifaceted, including financial need, leverage effect and visibility. The committee will keep an eye on balances such as personal circumstances, criteria for support, geography etc. The event must take place on the European Continent, and be to some extent consistent with EMA's commitments for scientific events.
Sponsored individuals are requested to thank EMA for their support and promote the membership programme during the event. For the sake of transparency, they agree to their name and the name of the event being listed on EMA’s web site. They also agree to write a short post after the event to express their gratitude for the support received and explain what they gained from participating in the event. Support is provided in the form of reimbursement of expenses after the event. These expenses must have been covered by the scientist, not by their laboratory or an organisation.
Apply before next cut-off date 31st July 2026 end of day.
The programme aims at supporting the organisation of scientific events in the field of Magnetism in Europe on a focused topic, for small scale to moderate scale audience. The maximum amount of support is 2,000€.
The criterion for granting support starts from scientific excellence, complementarity with large-scale events, and the resulting impact. The applicant must be directly involved in the organisation of the event, such as Chair or Organiser. The processing of applications requires that the applicant is a valid individual or body member of EMA. The event must take place on the European Continent, and be to some extent consistent with EMA's commitments for scientific events.
The applicant agrees to acknowledge and advertise the sponsorship and membership programmes of EMA during the event. Registration for the event must include an option to opt in to EMA's RGPD-compliant mailing list. Applicants agree that sponsored events will be listed in the EMA newsletter and on the EMA website for transparency purposes. In the event of receiving support, applicants agree to write a short post acknowledging the support of EMA and explaining what participants gained from attending the event.
The following participation to events and organization of events have been sponsored by EMA, following the cut-off date 30th January 2026.
