Scientists from Darmstadt, Dresden and Barcelona demonstrated for the first time that hysteresis in magnetocaloric materials for energy efficient cooling is not an obstacle as always assumed.

On the contrary, it is shown that using a hysteresis-positive approach on Heusler alloys and the combination of magnetic fields and mechanical stress a more sustainable cooling device can be built.
