In this Editorial, Dennis Meier and Susana Cardoso de Freitas, President and Vice-President, present the main outcome of the last EMA General Council.

Dear Colleagues and Members of EMA,

In April, the General Council (GC) of EMA convened for its annual meeting in Manchester, UK, held alongside the IEEE International Magnetics Conference (INTERMAG 2026). More than 30 representatives from across Europe participated in the hybrid meeting, including newly elected GC members, EMA officers, and invited guests from The SpinTronic Factory and PetaSpin.

A central part of the meeting focused on updates from the EMA President and Officers regarding ongoing initiatives and future strategic directions. The GC also discussed changes within the Executive Board. We are delighted to welcome Joo‑Von Kim as the new Officer for Digital Networking, succeeding Daniela Petti. Joo‑Von brings extensive experience from his work within the Digital Networking team. Notably, in 2020 he co‑initiated the Early Career Seminars together with Bertrand Dupé and has served for several years on the seminar committee. We look forward to continuing this important work with him. At the same time, we extend our sincere gratitude to Daniela for her excellent contributions and outstanding support of EMA during her term as Officer.

Another key topic was strengthening collaboration with National Societies active in magnetism, as well as with related associations, to better support our community. In this spirit, we are pleased to announce that a Memorandum of Understanding with the UK Magnetics Society has been prepared under the leadership of our Officer for Industrial Relations, Diana Leitão, and approved by the GC. Further details can be found in the provisional minutes of the meeting, now available on our website.

Finally, we would like to announce that a new EMA community survey will be launched in the near future. Its goal is to gather your feedback, involve the magnetism community in shaping future strategies, and provide a platform for you to express your needs and expectations regarding EMA’s upcoming actions. We warmly encourage you to take part and help guide our path forward.

We wish you all a pleasant summer and send our best regards,
Dennis MEIER, EMA President
Susanna CARDOSO DE FREITAS, EMA Vice-President
