In this editorial, Daniela PETTI and Joo-Von KIM, digital networking Officers, give an overview of EMA's online seminars, as well as information about its future developments.

Dear colleagues,

Since November 2020, the European Magnetism Association (EMA) has been organising a series of online seminars, including both Plenary Lectures and Early-Career e-seminars delivered by early-stage researchers. These events aim to promote Magnetism in Europe and foster networking among EMA members while maintaining a low carbon footprint.

We would like to remind you that nominations for the Early Career Scientist series are always welcome. If you have attended an excellent PhD defence or a postdoc seminar, please let us know. We recommend, nevertheless, that the seminar topic be related to magnetism and of interest to our community. Nominations can be made by sending an email to the Officer for Digital Networking or via the form available on the EMA website.

In the following, we provide an overview of our activities over the last year and information about future developments.

As you know, the abstracts for our seminars are presented in a video format and can all be viewed on our website. We therefore decided to launch a competition, and the first edition of the award for the best early-career researchers’ abstract was held during the JEMS 2025 conference in Frankfurt, Germany. Attendees had the opportunity to vote for their favourite video published in 2024, and the award went to Dr. Lauren Riddiford from ETH Zurich, Switzerland. Congratulations to the winner!

In 2025, the number of researchers reached by this initiative continued to grow. The recorded video abstracts and seminars, available on the EMA website, have been viewed more than 6500 times (+13% compared to the previous year). The majority of viewers are from Europe, but we also have many viewers from around the globe (e.g., India and the US). Regarding the live sessions, the average number of attendees on Zoom increased, while Twitch viewers decreased. Nevertheless, w e reached more than 300 people on Twitch, and more than 100 people attended some of the streamed events and we are very happy about the broad interest in the EMA online seminars.

In addition to the “Industry in the Spotlight” series introduced in 2024, at the end of 2025, we launched the “Sustainability” series, a topic of great interest for the community. This year, we will continue to develop these series in collaboration with the relevant EMA Officers,as well as our "textbook style" seminars in collaboration with the European School of Magnetism (ESM), which have been very successful in the past years.

Regarding the organisation, starting from March 2026, Joo-Von Kim will take over the role as Officer for Digital Networking from Daniela Petti (due approval from the EMA General Council), and a new steering committee will be established soon. We would like to thank the past committee sincerely - Sebastian Meyer, Joo-Von Kim, Can Onur Avci, Susana Freitas and Oliver Gutfleisch- for their help in organising the seminars. In particular, the EMA leadership would like to thank Daniela for her many years of dedicated service as an officer and the various successful activities she has introduced, supporting the magnetism community – THANK YOU!

We would like to emphasise that promoting geographical, thematic, and gender diversity within the magnetism community remains a key priority for us. We therefore warmly welcome your suggestions for future seminars and, in particular, nominations for the Early-Career Scientist series. To stay informed about EMA seminars and plenary talks, visit our website or follow the EMA account on Bluesky, LinkedIn and Instagram. Seminar announcements and tentative dates are also circulated via the EMA mailing list.

We look forward to seeing you all online!

With our best regards,
Daniela PETTI,
Joo-Von KIM, Officer of Digital Networking
