In this August 2024 editorial, Diana LEITAO, the EMA Officer for Industrial Relations, presents the work done at EMA to foster Industrial Relations.
Dear colleagues,
Over the past year, the EMA Industrial Relations Team has been developing initiatives to establish new connections between academia and industry.
A particular highlight was the “Industry Meets Science” - Session at JEMS 2025 in Frankfurt (24–29 August), which consisted of two parts:
Part 1 began with a series of short presentations by invited speakers, who highlighted the value of research within industry, showcased how their companies foster innovation, and shared examples of collaborations with academia. This was followed by an open Q&A session, encouraging active engagement from the audience. We thank the speakers who brought diverse experiences and represented companies of various sizes: Alberto Bollero (Bosch Corporate Research), Dimitri Benke (Magnotherm Solutions GmbH), Fernando Maccari (Neomaterials), and Johannes Paul (Sensitec GmbH).
Part 2 continued in a more informal setting, where participants had the opportunity to engage directly with the speakers, strengthen their network, and connect with exhibitors and sponsors, an essential part of the conference.
The “Industry Meets Science” - Session was organised by the EMA Industrial Relations Team together with Luiz Enger (EMA YORNE), Oliver Gutfleisch (JEMS 2025 chair), and with the support of Maija Laux (JEMS 2025 local organising committee).
Finally, in collaboration with our EMA Digital Networking Officer, Daniela Petti, we have continued the “Industry in the Spotlight” series during the EMA Plenary e-lectures, which can be accessed here.
