Two fully funded 4-year PhD positions are available in Computational Quantum Materials at the School of Physics, University College Dublin. The projects focus on the atomistic and first-principles modelling of spin and magnetism in low-dimensional systems, including stacked 2D materials and 2D metal–organic frameworks (2D-MOFs). Research will explore emergent magnetic behaviour and electrically tunable interfaces in 2D heterostructures. Methods include density functional theory (DFT), atomistic simulation, high-performance computing, and machine-learning-assisted materials modelling. Applicants should have a strong background in physics or a related discipline and an interest in computational condensed matter.
