We offer 2 postdoctoral positions dealing with the development of intermetallic materials for permanent magnets and magnetocaloric applications. Position 1: “Designing the Next-Generation of rare-earth-free Permanent Magnets” We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to explore phase formation, magnetic structures, and physical properties of intermetallic compounds, aiming to guide the design of next-generation permanent magnets. The role involves preparing intermetallic compounds, conducting structural (XRD) and physical property measurements (magnetization, heat capacity, transport, etc.), and contributing to experiments at large-scale facilities. Position 2: “Optimizing the functionality of Fe2P compounds through microstructural control” The primary objective of this project is to transform anisotropy into coercivity through the design of optimized microstructures, ultimately delivering a proof-of-concept for a Fe₂P-based permanent magnet. The work will involve extensive materials synthesis, along with systematic structural, microstructural, and physical property characterizations, to establish correlations between processing routes and performances. Application Deadline: 3rd October 2025 Expected starting date: end 2025-early 2026 Expected duration: 18/24 months Contact: Dr Francois GUILLOU (francois.guillou@unicaen.fr)
