Last month REIA, a global association for rare-earth industry stakeholders, was officially formed as an association during its first General assembly and conference. The association was launched with the support of EIT RawMaterials, a European R&D funding agency.

Rare earths elements are of key importance for magnetic research and technology. They are notably involved in high-performance permanent magnets, subject to a sharp rise of request due to their involvement in electric motors and gear-free wind mills. The increased need of rare-earth as raw materials raises a number of issues, such as that of the supply chain.

Last month REIA, a global association for rare-earth industry stakeholders, was officially formed as an association during its first General assembly and conference. The association was launched with the support of EIT RawMaterials, a European R&D funding agency. The objectives of REIA is to develop an integrated, de-risked and sustainable value chain for RE materials by:

  • Developing a well-matched global stakeholder network
  • Analyzing the potential for sustainable supply chains
  • Finding solutions for optimizing value chains

REIA is in its foundation phase supported by its founding members. Individuals, institutions and companies with stakes in the rare earths can join the association by contacting the secretariat. More information may be found in the official press release. REIA website
