We are looking for a research assistant for a project in the field of ultrafast spin and magnetization dynamics, a highly topical branch of research in solid-state physics. The project aims to determine the transient electronic structure of metallic, ferromagnetic films and bilayers after laser excitation. To probe the dynamics, we employ photoelectron spectroscopy with ultrashort VUV pulses, which we generate as higher harmonics of the laser fundamental. We use complex ultrashort pulsed laser systems as light sources. The preparation of the samples as well as (spin-resolved) photoemission experiments are carried out in specially designed ultrahigh vacuum set ups. Our ultrafast spectroscopy at solids is certainly one of the most complex state-of-the-art laboratory experiments, so that you will learn a variety of experimental skills.
