We are looking for a PhD student at the Institute for Metallic Materials (IMW) of the IFW Dresden interested in the development the next generations of Thermomagnetic Generators, which convert low temperature waste heat in electricity. This work is intended to continue our research recently published in Nature Energy (2019, DOI: 10.1038/s41560-018-0306-x). It includes the design, construction, and evaluation of devices for energy harvesting using magnetocaloric materials as active component.
You should have a master degree or diploma in engineering, material science or physics. Knowledge and interest on magnetism, magnetocaloric refrigeration or thermodynamic machines are welcome. The employment contract is primarily limited to 12 months and will be extended by another 2 years upon a successful mid-term evaluation. The salary is based upon the TV-L rules (E13; 50%).
