Working within the R&D department at Seagate (Londonderry, Northern Ireland), the successful candidate will be responsible for research and development in the areas of transducer design and thin-film wafer processing for the manufacture of future generations of thin film magnetic and magneto-optic recording heads. The position will involve applying and extending the latest understanding of device physics, microfabrication technology and photonics to meet the challenges of this fast moving environment.
Product and transducer design will involve modelling, prototyping and performance analysis of next generation magnetic and nanophotonic materials / devices to meet customer requirements. Nano device development will involve the application of advanced lithography, vacuum deposition, plating, CMP and etch technologies using associated state of the art metrology techniques. The successful candidates will undergo an extensive training program that covers key aspects of these relevant technologies within the Research & Development department.
Suitable for applicants holding Masters level qualification or PhD in a relevant field (engineering or science discipline such as physics, optics, optoelectronics, chemistry, materials, microelectronics + 2 years of relevant experience).
