Welcome to Giacomo Sala and Verena Brehm, new Sustainability officer and team member!

The European Magnetism Association (EMA) is concerned about global warming and the widespread non-sustainable use of resources. We are therefore committed to promote awareness and improve the sustainability of our actions, and to identify ways how we can help the magnetism community in doing so.

In accordance with our guidelines for the organisation of sustainable events, we are doing our best to assist in implementing them at EMA events, such as the European School on Magnetism (ESM) and the Joint European Magnetism Symposia (JEMS).

Thus, we are very happy to announce the engagement of Giacomo Sala as new EMA Officer for sustainability, as well as Verena Brehm, who will lead our future actions, following our previous Carbon Footprint Officer, Betrand Dupé, now in charge of ESM. We thank Bertrand for establishing the first guidelines and look forward to further widening our sustainability activities. As first steps, Giacomo and Verena intend to review existing good practices in other communities and organisations and establish a broader EMA working group. The focus is on actions to foster sustainability in the lab, as well as greener ways of travelling and conference organisation.
