With great sadness, we announce that Prof. Dr Florian Haberey passed away on September 10th, 2024 at the age of 86.

Prof. Dr Florian Haberey studied electrical engineering at RWTH Aachen in 1958, where he completed his doctorate in 1967 on the subject of "Dielectric constant of polycrystalline ferrites". From 1969 he worked as a senior engineer at the Institute for Materials at the Ruhr University Bochum, where he qualified as a professor in 1971 in the field of "Materials and components in electrical engineering". From 1972 until his retirement in 2003 he headed the "Magnetic oxide materials" working group and was appointed associate professor in 1976 and professor in 1979.

He was a mentor to a large number of students and the initiator of the student exchange program between the Ruhr University Bochum (Germany) and Purdue University (West Lafayette/USA), which started in 1976 and still exists today.
