QuAHMET — Quantum anomalous Hall effect materials and devices for metrology is a 3-year Joint Research Project of the European Metrology Partnership. The project focus is on the traceable measurement and characterisation of quantum anomalous Hall effect (QAHE) materials as devices and primary resistance standard candidates. Partners from both NMIs and academia collaborate to create an European infrastructure for the development of quantum resistance standards based on QAHE in topological insulators.

Discovery of topological quantum materials enables the realisation of the so-called quantum anomalous Hall effect (QAHE), i.e. the quantum Hall effect at zero magnetic fields, and QAHE devices based on magnetically doped topological insulators are being assessed for their exploitation towards possible applications. The proposed new QAHE-based primary resistance standards will reduce the economic and organisational effort needed to disseminate the electrical units to end users and industries allowing the installation and maintenance of turn-key experimental systems directly in industry and calibration laboratories, continuously supported and trained by NMIs.
