In this September 2024 editorial, Sofia Ferreira Teixeira, the Young EMA Officer, presents the work done at EMA to strengthen the relations with the younger and early career members of our community and foster more interactions between them
Dear colleagues, members, and friends of EMA,
EMA wishes to strengthen the relations with the younger and early career members of our community, and foster interactions between them. With this aim, I, Sofia Ferreira Teixeira (CIC nanoGUNE, Spain) have been appointed as the EMA Young Officer since last December 2023. Since then, I established a dedicated team of fellow young members of EMA to accomplish and realise dedicated actions.
The Young EMA Working Group is currently composed of Luiz Enger (Magnetic Microsystem Technologies (MMT), Austria), Elizabeth Jefremovas (Johannes Gutenberg University, Germany), Daniel Arranz López (Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain), Sabri Koraltan (University of Vienna, Austria) and Valentina Errani (Utrecht University, The Netherlands).
We support the young EMA community both in-person and online, by implementing actions, including:
-
Organising in-person sessions during EMA events, in particular ESM and JEMS.
-
Creating online spaces for networking and interactions between the young members of EMA, as in the newly created EMA Instagram (@magnetism.eu) and on Discord (join here!)
-
Reaching out to the broader current and future young members of the scientific community by nurturing collaborations with several groups, such as the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding with the International Association of Physics Students, and the IEEE MagSoc Students in Magnetism group (SiM) under the umbrella of our Memorandum of Understanding with the IEEE MagSoc.
To achieve these goals, the Young EMA Working Group works closely together with the other EMA officers. For example, with the Industrial Relations team, we are preparing a joint JEMS 2025 session on Academia and Industry; with the Communications team we contribute to the social media presence and efforts; and with the Digital Networking team, we promote the e-seminars, motivating young members of the community to participate.
If you have any proposals, ideas or suggestions, or would like to engage with the Young EMA Working Group, please let us know! You can contact us at young@magnetism.eu. Feel free to join the discussions and actions!
Best wishes,
Sofia FERREIRA TEIXEIRA, EMA Young Officer
