In this August 2024 editorial, Diana LEITAO, the EMA Officer for Industrial Relations, presents the work done at EMA to foster Industrial Relations.

Dear colleagues,

Over the past year, we have established an Industrial Relations team composed of Ester M. Palmero (IMDEA Nanociencia, Spain), Graeme Finch (NPL, United Kingdom) and Diana Leitao (TU Eindhoven, Netherlands), bringing together distinct expertise within the broad field of magnetism. Together, we set three lines of action to guide our activities:

  • Enhance the visibility of EMA within the industry and vice versa.

  • Foster connections between the European magnetism community and industrial sectors.

  • Bridge the gap between education and industry.

In collaboration with the Digital Networking Officer Daniela Petti, we have launched the “Industry in the Spotlight” series. Our goal is to create an engaging platform that increases the visibility of research primarily driven by the needs of industrial product development. We expect that such an increase in visibility may promote new collaborative works among academia, research centres, and industrial partners. The inaugural presentation took place on June 20 during an EMA Plenary e-lecture and can be accessed here.

In parallel, we have also initiated a dialogue with sister societies to set agendas and explore ways of working together. Finally, we are looking forward to JEMS 2025 in Frankfurt from 24 – 29 August, where we can all meet and have unique opportunities to continue our actions.

Whether you have proposals, suggestions, or simply wish to engage actively, contact us. We invite you all to join the discussions and actions.

With best regards,
Diana LEITAO, Officer for Industrial relations
