The Rare Earth Industry Association (REIA) is organizing on 28th March in Brussels a one-day conference in partnership with REEsilience project where key stakeholders from the rare-earth industry, R&D institutes and policy makers will join to discuss about the latest advances and innovations in the sector, focusing on materials development, sustainability, permanent magnets fabrication and recycling, among other topics.

REEsilience Conference on Innovations in Rare Earths and Magnet Application, 28 March in Brussel.

Permanent magnets acquired extraordinary visibility in the last years as they play a key role in the Green and Digital Transition. There is a rapidly increasing demand for permanent magnets nowadays in technological applications mainly boosted by electric vehicles and green energy technologies (e.g., wind turbines), being those made of Rare Earth Elements (REE) the ones with the highest performance.

Securing a clean and sustainable permanent magnet production is a challenge and an urgent matter for the EU with important consequences at economical, ecological, and societal levels, which impact on our global climate, energy, and raw materials challenges.

A continuous research and development under the frame of different initiatives is being carried out to reach the European Green Deal objectives by boosting the economy through green technology, wise use of natural resources, creating sustainable industry and transport, and cutting pollution and carbon footprint. The scientific and technological initiatives comprise research on material science to find alternative materials or improve the materials properties, and activities focused on increasing the efficiency and sustainability along the different stages of the permanent magnet value chain, from the rare-earth elements extraction and processing to the fabrication of the permanent magnets and recycling.
