Sofia Ferreira Teixeira becomes the first EMA Young Officer, for a term of three years
We warmly welcome Sofia Ferreira Teixeira (currently at Nanogune, Spain) as the first EMA Young Officer. For a term of three years, Sofia will take part in the Executive Board of EMA alongside all other Officers. As EMA Young Officer, she will strengthen the relations with the younger and early career members of our community, and foster more interactions between them.
Three core initiatives will guide the work of the Young Officer. First, the support and growth of the young and early career members will be a priority. This will be achieved through the creation of, for example, a Young EMA network, where they can come together, share experiences, and continue or initiate projects that can advance their career and contribute to EMA’s missions. Another action is to reach out to the possible future generation that will become professionals in the world of magnetism. The latter includes university students that may not yet be aware of the existence of EMA and the world of magnetism, despite having a long tradition of organising themselves in different associations. By reaching out to them, Sofia would like to engage this new generation and make them an active part of our association. Lastly, young members of EMA are in an ideal position to reach out to a wider audience through outreach initiatives. They themselves often have benefited from such initiatives just a few years before. As such, their input and ideas are key to contribute to these activities, such as experiment guides or talks to the general public.
The young and early career members are an integral part of EMA, which now have their own representative in the Executive Board, helping to shape the future of our association and the magnetism world. Input and ideas are welcome at any time, and if you have any comments, suggestions, or wish to take an active role in any of the upcoming initiatives, please feel free to contact Sofia.
