Photoelectrical imaging and coherent spin-state readout of single nitrogen-vacancy centers in diamond
Nitrogen vacancies centers (NVC) in diamond allow the precise measurement of magnetic fields with the spatial resolution down to the atomic scale. Up to now, these measurements required the laser based read-out of the field dependent splitting of the NVC spin state using so-called optically detected magnetod resonance. Now an international research collaboration has demonstrated the electrical readout of the spin state of a single NVC with prospects for high resolution quantum field sensors.
