Registration for the 2018 European School on Magnetism (17-28 Sep 2018 in Kraków, Poland) is open. Topic: Magnetism by Light. The application deadline is 20 April, 2018.
The next edition of the European School on Magnetism (ESM) series will take place in Krakow, Poland, from September 17-28th, 2018. It is organized by the Academic Centre for Materials and Nanotechnology, AGH University of Science and Technology, under the umbrella of the European Magnetism Association.
As with previous editions of ESM, the 2018 School aims at providing a thorough insight into magnetism through a broad series of fundamental lectures, and to address a specific topic of current interest in more detail. We intend to cover modern aspects overlapping a broad series of fundamental lectures on one side, and the latest insights into up-to-date aspects of magnetism on the other side. The topic chosen for the 2018 School is: “Magnetism by Light”. This covers a wide range of fundamental phenomena deeply rooted in condensed matter physics, specific instrumentation and opportunities for applications. Focused lectures will cover ultrafast light-induced magnetization processes, magnetoplasmonics, microwave magnetism, magneto-optics, spectroscopic and synchrotron-based techniques etc. The School will be an opportunity for young scientists to meet, share their expertise and build networks.
Request for participation in the school is open till April 20th, 2018. Potential attendees are expected to provide, along with their application form, a motivation letter and, for PhD students and post-docs, a recommendation letter from their supervisor. The forthcoming important dates are:
April 20th, 2018: deadline for the requests for participation
May 18th, 2018: notification of acceptance or waiting list
July 1st, 2018: deadline for payment of the fees, otherwise cancellation for the benefice of the waiting list.
Registration fees will be 450€ for students, PhD and post-docs, and 650€ for long-term contracts and permanent staff (tenure academic positions, private companies, etc). The fees cover accommodation, breakfast and lunch meals, coffee breaks, local transport, excursion and social activities for the full duration of the school.
Various financial supports have allowed keeping these fees moderate, to support the participation of students. Travel costs remain at the charge of the attendees. Nevertheless, a few scholarships for waiving registration fees may be granted in very special cases where financial support is clearly an obstacle for attending the school. More details about the registration procedure may be found on the 2018 website: http://www.esm2018.agh.edu.pl
