Visas are not required for citizens of the European Community. For non-European citizens more information
can be obtained from the Romanian Embassy or Consulate, to check whether you need a visa. If you do so
a personal invitation letter may be necessary, which you can ask for from the Organizing Committee.
Money in Romania
The currency in Romania is the New Lei (RON), equivalent to about 0.28€ (Click
here or there for a currency converter).
Foreign currencies can be exchanged at banks and in many exchange offices located in different places of the town.
Many cash dispensers are found, accepting any type of international credit cards.
Cluj-Napoca International Airport offers connections
with several major cities of Europe. Alternatively take an internal flight from Bucharest to Cluj-Napoca. Some companies:
Groups: pick-ups can be organized for large to smaller-size groups from Cluj airport or Railway station.
Please contact in advance Viorel Pop to organize these pick-ups.
Individuals: if you do not arrive within an organized group we recommend you to use bus or taxi:
Taxis in Cluj-Napoca are a cheap and safe way of transportation as long as you take one from an established company,
and not a privately-run taxi. Prices depend on the company so be sure to check them out before getting in.
A typical fare per kilometer is 1.19-1.39RON (0.35-0.41€). Companies to be trusted include the following:
Rapid, Diesel, Nova, Teraffan, Pritax. The name of the company is usually displayed very clearly on the taxi.
Public transportation: tickets (2.6 Lei (return-trip ticket) = 0.77€) must be purchased before travelling by tram,
bus or trolley-bus. Tickets may be purchased from special booths found at major bus stations.
This type of ticket must be punched inside buses and tramways (using a devoted machine found in all buses and trams)
immediately upon boarding. If you do not have a valid ticket, you are liable to pay a fine of 30-40€.
