Presentation

Models in magnetism : from basic aspects to practical uses will be the 2009 Summer School, part of the Series of the European School on Magnetism. It will take place September 1-10th 2009 in Timisoara (Romania).

The topic chosen, Models in magnetism : from basic aspects to practical uses, partly stems from the success of the several open question sessions organized in the course of the 2007 Summer School, during which many students raised questions about fundamentals and models in magnetism. The topics covered will be: basic concepts, exchange interactions and magnetic ordering, coupling with the lattice, temperature effects, strongly correlated systems, transport, magnetization processes. The school is addressed mainly to PhD students and post-docs. It will be open to all communities of magnetism, both experimentalists and theoreticians. It will consist of approximately 20 lectures amounting to 40 hours, presented over a period of 10 days by scientists who are directly active in today's research. Tutorials and open question sessions will also be organized.
