The European School on Magnetism (ESM) is an event organized by the European magnetism community. ESM is closely linked with its conference counterpart, the Joint European Magnetic Symposia , organized every two years as the largest European conference on Magnetism. JEMS2010 was held in Krakow, Poland. JEMS2012 will be held in Parma, Italy, 9-14 Sep. 2012. The joint JEMS and ESM actions aim at supporting European activity in magnetism, through the dissemination of knowledge and the education of young scientists.

The European School on Magnetism aims at providing a thorough insight into fundamentals of magnetism. It is open to young scientists and consists of a ten-day training course combining lectures, tutorials, computer and text-book practicals, interactive question sessions, and a free-access library dedicated to magnetism. The practical organization of ESM relies on the Grenoble magnetism community, backed up by a European advisory committee in relation with the International Advisory Committee of JEMS, and is supported by various institutions. A large part of the School is devoted to fundamentals of magnetism, while more specialized lectures are provided around a topic assigned to each School.
