About Romania
- Visas are not required for citizens of the European Community. For non-European citizens detailed information
can be obtained from the Romanian Ministry for Foreign Affairs or a Romanian Embassy or Consulate, to check whether you need a visa. If you do so
a personal invitation letter may be necessary (see annex documents right below), which you may ask obtain from the Organizing Committee. Conditions such as the remaining validity of your passeport may also apply. Here are some documents to assist you. We leave it under your responsibility that you check that these conditions still hold at the time of your departure.

- Notice: holders of permanent residence permits issued by member states of the European Union can in principle enter without a visa, if the permit is of permanent status and extends to at least five years. All the permits that do not fall into this category are not long-term residence permits and hence, the holders of such permits must apply for a Romanian entry visa.

- Foreign currencies can be exchanged at banks and in many exchange offices located in different places of the town.

About Târgovişte
Târgovişte is a town with 100 000 inhabitants, located 100km north-west of Bucarest, the capital of Romania. Below are some links.
Travel information
Travel to Târgovişte
The airport closest to the conference site is Bucharest
Henri Coanda (or Banaesa) international airport, 50 km southeast of Târgovişte. Participants will be picked-up at the airport on Aug.22nd and brought back on Sep.2nd. Upon arrival on the 22nd somebody will wait at the information desk in the public area of the airport, with a sign reading 'European School on Magnetism 2011'. The timetable of the buses has been chosen on the basis of the replies to the time-of-arrival survey: 07:30, 13:30, 15:30, 17:00, 19:00, 20:00, 21:00. Transportation back to the airport will be organized for your departure on Sep.2nd. Details will be provided during the School.
Although we will take care of your transfer, you may notice that the transfer may be done with public transportation, first reaching Bucharest downtown, then take a train to Târgovişte. To reach Bucharest one may either:
- Take an express train to Bucharest North train station. Tickets can be bought at the arrival Hall (~6 Lei). It includes both the minibus transfer and the express train (timetable).
- Take the express bus line 783 up to station Place de la Victoire (Piata Victoriei), then take the underground to the North train station. At the airport theses buses stop at both arrival and departure terminals, every other 15 min. The booth to buy tickets is located in front of the arrival terminal (7 lei return trip).

Inside Târgovişte
Transport inside Târgovişte related to the School schedule will be organized for the participants. In other cases taxis may be used, with companies such as CAR TAXI (+40 245 944), COBA TAXI (+40 245 945) or AGEC TAXI (+40 724 998 640). Fare depend whether it is night or day, however is of the order of 2 Lei/km (0.5€).
Conference site
The two spots of interest in Târgovişte for ESM are:
- (A) The accommodation (student residence), located at 13, Aleea Sinaia
- (B)The conference center, located at 39, Mr. Ion Alexandrescu.

Registration and welcome
Lectures will start on Aug.23rd morning and end on Sep.1st, end of afternoon. Therefore you should schedule your forth trip on Aug.22nd, and return trip on Sep.2nd
Registration will be organized all day on Aug.22nd. Dinner will be organized for those participants reaching Târgovişte at the latest at 9pm.
Misc
- Lodging is brand new and confortable, however it is run as a student accommodation. Thus you should bring with you soap and towels. Linen/blankets are provided.
- Laundry (automatic washing machines) is available in the accommodation building.
- Internet connexion should be available in the accommodation building. Please bring a LAN wire, in case the connection is not WiFi.
- Casual wear: one outing and one or more sport sessions have been scheduled. Please bring casual wear for such purpose.
- Banks (BCR, Raiffeisen Bank, BRD – Group Societe Generale, Transilvania, Romexterra Bank, etc) and currency exchange may be found in Târgovişte, as well as cash dispensers accepting major credit cards.
- Posters: we encourage participants to bring posters to present their work. Posters may be hanged throughout the entire school, to be visited mainly during coffee breaks. The size of the posters is maximum 80cm wide. Early in the time schedule oral sessions have been scheduled for quick presentations of the participants as an introduction to their poster (two slides max). Please have such slides prepared in an electronic format!
