We look for a talented PhD student in Physics/Materials Physics to join the project “Towards Integrated Nano-Magnetics for High Frequency Power Supplies (HiFMag)”. Today magnetic components such as inductors and transformers of power supplies are large compared to other electronic components. The challenge in realizing smaller, faster and in turn greener power supplies – e.g. for cell phone chargers - is integration of magnetic materials that are able to operate efficiently in the components at high frequencies (>10 MHz, to be used in switch mode power supplies).
As a PhD student in “HiFMag”, you will work on the nanoscale design of high-frequency magnetic materials, through magnetic measurements and simulations. The PhD project will be supervised by Professor Cathrine Frandsen from DTU Physics and co-supervised by Associate Professor Marco Beleggia from DTU Nanolab and Professor Matti Knaapila from DTU Physics. Most of the PhD project will be carried out at DTU's campus in Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark. The project also includes a 3-to-6-month stay at RISE Research Institutes of Sweden in Göteborg, Sweden, with Professor Christer Johansson.
