The Laboratory of Magnetism and Interfaces at ETH Zürich has multiple openings for Ph.D. students on the general topics of spintronics and interfacial magnetism. Strongly motivated candidates with a background in Physics/Materials Science/Electrical Engineering, or a closely-related area, are welcome to apply. Of particular interest are spin-orbit effects that lead to efficient charge-spin conversion in metal/oxide heterostructures, antiferromagnets, and topological insulators. These effects allow to switch and detect the magnetization in small-scale devices using electric currents. Topics to be investigated include, but are not limited to, spin Hall magnetoresistance, spin-orbit torques, and ultrafast switching. The positions shall be filled between June 2017 and January 2018.
